Historic Trip to Virginia and Washington D.C. ! Day 1 & 2

Well I better blog our trip before I forget everything.

Saturday Sept 12th---We woke up really early to get to the airport.  Mom and Dad came to pick us up at 4:30 a.m. and even then just made it barely on time.  We were rushed.  It was about a  3 1/2 hours flight to the Detroit airport where we would be having a lay over before we finished flying to Richmond Virgina to our finally destination.
During our 4 hour lay over we ate lunch and then we walked the entire length of the airport for exercise and looked at the shops etc.  Finally it was time to take our last flight which was only a little over an hour.  When we arrived we got our luggage and then got our car rental.  Our car was a Silver Malibu Chevrolet that was a brand new model 2016 and only had a little bit of miles on it.  It was super nice and Gary had fun driving it.  We drove to our Marriott condo where we would be staying for half of the trip. One of the things that stood out to me right away was all the green and the tall trees that are everywhere.

That evening we ate at a place called Panera Bread that had wonderful food.  It had soups, salads, and sandwiches.  It was a lot like a Zuppas or Kneaders.  Then we went shopping at Walmart for Breakfast foods and for Sunday dinner food for the next day.  That night we all stayed up late to watch the BYU Football game.  What an exciting game it was and luckily we won.  We did not get to bed until close to 2:00 a.m. due the game being televised later because of the time change.

Sunday Sept 13th
We woke up early to get ready for church at 8:00 a.m.  Then we drove to the church building to discover that they had Stake Conference and they were not there.  We did the best we could to find a church but ended up going back to our condo to take a Sunday walk instead.  We took some pictures of our condo and some of the beautiful homes and sites by our condo.

We found an interesting tree that we found out is called a Magnolia tree.  Gary is holding the seed that will turn into a beautiful flower.

Here  is another beautiful flowering tree.

After our walk we went back to our condo to cook up some Chicken Pot Pies, take naps and I wrote a letter to Kelsey who is on her mission.  Later that afternoon we went on a site seeing trip to go on a bridge by Chesapeake bay.   It was a beautiful Sunday drive.  The bridge consisted of underground tunnels that went under the ocean,  above the ocean bridges and even some overpass type bridges.

After all the bridges and tunnels we drove to York Town which also had a bridge and beautiful homes and a river walk that we went out to walk on and take pictures.

After the river-walk we drove around the battlefield and read all the signs about the war that was fought here.  Then we called it a day and headed back to our condo.
